1:1	The burden of the word of God to Israel by Malachi. Masa-devar Adonay el-Yisra'el beyad Mal'achi.
1:2	I have loved you, says God. Yet you say, 'How have You loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says God. Yet I loved Jacob, Ahavti etchem amar Adonay va'amartem bamah ahavtanu halo-ach Esav le-Ya'akov ne'um-Adonay va'ohav et-Ya'akov.
1:3	but I hated Esau; I destroyed his mountains and gave his heritage to the jackals of the desert. Ve'et-Esav saneti va'asim et-harav shmamah ve'et-nachalato letanot midbar.
