4:1 Now, Israel, listen to the rules and laws that I am teaching you to do, so that you will remain alive and come to occupy the land that God, Lord of your fathers, is giving you.
Ve'atah Yisra'el shma el-hachukim ve'el-hamishpatim asher anochi melamed etchem la'asot lema'an tichyu uvatem virishtem et-ha'arets asher Adonay Elohey avoteychem noten lachem.


Commentary:

Now Israel...
  This was said in the valley (Ibn Ezra). See Deuteronomy 4:41. This marks the beginning of the commandments (Ramban).
